what Is a dramaturg?

A dramaturg is the person responsible for dramaturgy - they look at the bigger picture and guide your work to a considered and thoughtful final product.

When you are creating a new project or idea, you can be so invested in the little details or your vision that it is hard to step out and see the bigger picture. This is where a dramaturg comes in to help realise your vision. Originally, this has been a literary role to help with historical accuracy of a play - however it has shifted with contemporary styles of art and broadened to assist directors, writers, choreographers, lyricists, and more with their creative work.

A dramaturg will invest in your creative style, your themes and ideas, and your passions as the driving force to help take your work from good to amazing.

ABOUT THE DRAMATURG

Cam is a queer performance maker, dramaturg and producer who is based in Eora/Sydney.

With a decade-long professional experience in the performing arts, Cam relishes in all aspects of creativity and is passionate about bringing new, cutting edge works to the stage/screen.

Funnelling her years of experience into a Masters of Dramaturgy, Cam looks to champion for the importance and accessibility of dramaturgy across the independent arts sector. Cam connects with people from all walks of life to help them engage with their works with care and intention, setting them up for success as they take their shows to the public for the first time.
